What are the advantages of dental implants
over dentures or bridges? Every
way you look at it, dental implants are a better solution to the
problem of missing teeth. Esthetic Dental implants look and feel like
your own teeth. Since dental implants integrate into the structure of
your bone, they prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often
accompany bridgework and dentures. No one will ever know that you have
a replacement tooth.
Tooth-saving Dental implants don't sacrifice the quality of your
adjacent teeth like a bridge does because neighboring teeth are not
altered to support the implant. More of your own teeth are left
untouched, a significant long-term benefit to your oral health.
Confidence Dental implants will allow you to once again speak and eat
with comfort and confidence. They are secure and offer freedom from the
irksome clicks and wobbles of dentures. They'll allow you to say
goodbye to worries about misplaced dentures and messy pastes and glues.
Reliable The success rate to dental implants is highly predictable.
They are considered an excellent option for tooth replacement.
Am I a candidate for dental implants?
The ideal candidate for a dental implant is in good general and oral
health. Adequate bone in your jaw is needed to support the implant and
the best candidates have healthy gum tissues that are free of
periodontal disease.
Why do I need Periodontal Surgery?
You need periodontal surgery because your periodontist has determined
that the tissues around your teeth are unhealthy and cannot be repaired
with non-surgical treatment.
How long will it take to heal? It's
important to follow the doctor's instructions. Patients generally can
expect to enjoy their normal routine the following day. Talk with your
periodontist about any special post-operative considerations you may
have, such as diet, exercise or follow-up medications. This will help
to minimize disruption of your daily activities.
Will insurance cover the surgery? Many
insurance plans pay a portion of periodontal services. Your periodontal
health is important, so talk to your periodontist about payment
options. Oftentimes, our Will I have pain during my surgery? No, we use
adequate amounts of appropriate anesthetics during your surgery which
eliminate pain during surgery. We will be happy to offer sedation to
help relax your concern and anxiety of receiving anesthetics. We take
our time with anesthetizing you to make the experience as pleasant as
possible.
What kind of
anesthetics are used? Depending on your systemic condition, we
use different kinds of anesthetics. Some pocedures require longer
lasting anesthetics with use of epinephrine. For some individuals with
extreme dental phobia, we offer intravenous and general anesthesia by
our anesthesiologist.
What problems will
I experience post operatively? What prescription will I receive?
You may experience some tenderness and pain from the surgery areas
between 1 to 5 days after the procedure is completed. Immediately after
the surgery, we will give you pain medications to control pain and
post-operative sensitivity.
What should be
avoided after surgery? Use of alcoholic beverages, spicy foods,
excessive exercise, and smoking increase the pain and healing period.
Maintaining an adequate diet after the surgery is advised. Drink plenty
of liquids post-operatively to replenish blood loss. You should chew on
the opposite side of surgical areas and avoid hard and spicy foods.
What steps are
involved in preparation for dental implants? Prior to dental
treatment, the following steps are taken:
1. Patient evaluation and clinical exam
2. Study models are taken and x-ray stints are fabricated
3. Appropriate x-rays are taken with aid of Simplant software
5.Fabrication of surgical stints
6. Consultation with restorative dentists and laboratory for restoration
How long will
my implant treatment take? Generally, after placement of
implants, bone needs to be given a period of 2-4 months to heal.
Certain areas with augmented bone may require 6-8 months of healing. In
some cases, if bone is dense enough , minimally invasive surgical
techniques are used and implant is loaded
immediately after surgery with a temporary crown. |
