Gingival Graft - Soft Tissue Graft - Soft tissue is added to reinforce thin gums or to
fill in are on a where gums have receded. Grafted tissue, usually taken
from the roof of your mouth, is sutured in place over the affected
area. Thin, recessed gums reveal tooth roots, causing sensitivity and
an uneven gumline.
Crown Lengthening - Excess
gum and bone tissue are reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth.
This can be done to one tooth, to the gumline, or to several teeth to
expose a natural, broad smile. Dr. Afar may also recommend crown
lengthening to make a restorative or cosmetic dental procedure possible
- perhaps if a tooth is decayed, broken below the gumline, or has
insufficient tooth structure for a restoration, such as a crown or
bridge. CL adjusts the gum and bone level to expose more of the tooth
so it can be restored.
